This update of the 1984 Kevin Bacon dance flick is actually much better, and not just because all the leads do their own dancing. Ren (Kenny Wormald) moves to a small town where teenagers are banned from the type of partying that was blamed for killing a car load some years earlier. He challenges the law, and with the help of local hottie Ariel (Julianne Hough, from America’s Dancing with the Stars) mounts a case to the town elders that they shouldn’t allow the past to colour their future. The dancing sequences are terrific – even the line-dancing is tolerable – but what really sells this quality reboot are the dashes of reality missing from the original; the bible bashing is dialled down, the reason behind the dance ban is ramped up and the adults are portrayed in three dimensions instead of one. General.
